The abundant presence of springs probably influenced the choice of the location of the castle of Peyraux. The current buildings, dating mainly from the 15th century, have undergone little modification over time. Despite a partial dismantling in 1635, the castle retains three square round towers, with their defensive features, as well as a main building overlooking a vaulted cellar. In the 18th century, extensions were made, notably on the east facade of the castle and in the north wing of the commons. The archives attest to the inhabitants of the castle since the beginning of the fourteenth century. Following several successions, the castle passed from Badefols to Royere in the early seventeenth century. This family is still responsible for its preservation today. Many craftsmen contribute to the maintenance of buildings, gardens and the park. The castle of Peyraux is classified as historical monuments since 1948 (the common since 1974). The surrounding site, covering about 160 hectares and largely wooded, has been listed since 1984.

In the town of Lardin Saint-Lazare, a short distance from the Vézère, the castle of Peyraux and its commons, connected by a terrace and surrounded by gardens, are part of a preserved valley, dominated by the Poujoulou. The presence of abundant springs probably explains the location of the castle.
Little modified in the course of time, the present buildings date mostly from the fifteenth century. Partially dismantled in 1635, the castle retains 3 square round towers, with their defensive features, and a main building above a vaulted cellar. It was enlarged in the eighteenth century (east facade of the castle and north wing of the commons).
We know, through the archives, the inhabitants of the castle since the beginning of the fourteenth century. Following several successions, the castle passed from Badefols to Royere in the early seventeenth century. This family still preserves it today. Many trades allow the good maintenance of buildings, gardens and park.
