With a guide to accompany you, you can trace the very old history of the castle of La Guionie, whose origins are blended with those of the knights of the temple, who settled on the parish of Lempzours in 1137. Initially, it was reputed to be the residence of the commander of the order in Périgord, but after the disappearance of the Templars in 1307, it passed into the hands of lay owners. The building was enlarged and rebuilt from the 14th to the 16th century, then burned by Protestants in 1569. At the beginning of the 17th century, La Guionie became the property of the Siorac, who undertook its reconstruction around 1660-1690, giving it the form it still retains today. This castle is a testimony of the rural architecture of the small nobility of the Périgord in the century of Louis XIV. It was never opened to the public before 2020, but it is now being progressively restored and is opening its doors for the European Heritage Days. During the visit, you can discover both the exterior and the interior of the castle, as well as the templar cellar.
