Bourganeuf played a crucial role as the former capital of the “language of Auvergne” of the Order of the Hospitallers of Saint-Jean-de-jerusalem, a title she retained until 1787, despite a transfer to Lyon in 1750. As part of the tourism ministry and the association “Les Amis de l'orgue”, a visit to the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is organized. This church, classified as a Historic Monument in 1913, houses a magnificent organ to discover.

The Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem founded an establishment in Bourganeuf in the 12th century, including a chapel dedicated to this religious order. In the 15th century, with the development of the preceptory, the religious building was enlarged and transformed into a parish church. The wall paintings, restored in the 20th century, have been beautifully enhanced. A historic organ, the oldest in the region, sits in the church gallery.
