In 2023, we will combine a festive event and the valorization of the city’s heritage by organizing for the first time a medieval festival on the site of the remains of the castle of Aubusson.
This festival will host a medieval market but also shows. This festival as we mentioned will enhance the heritage of the city since we will benefit from the support of guide speakers who will have at heart to discover the history of Aubusson and its castle.

The ruins of the castle are commonly called «the chapter». The site of the chapter allows to have a beautiful view of the city of Aubusson. The castle was built between the 10th and 13th centuries by the Viscounts of Aubusson and was one of the most remarkable castle of the Middle Ages. The fortress was protected by an oval enclosure, five round towers and a drawbridge that spanned a wide ditch. By order of Richelieu, and in order to take away from the Huguenots any means of resistance, the castle was destroyed in 1632\. Its stones were used to build part of the houses of Aubusson as well as the bridge of the Terrade. Today, there is only one section of rectangular keep, the adjoining wall and the base of the 13th century square tower.
