When freedom came from heaven

On March 5, 1944, a stirling of the Royal Air Force took off from England with the objective of the ground "VERRUE" located in Séreilhac. On the spot, the inhabitants of Gaubertie mobilize to signal the ground in the middle of the night with the help of luminous witnesses. 15 containers rain from the sky, filled with a precious cargo of grenades, machine guns, and other war rifles. The operations are led by Commander Pinte who is at the initiative of the homologation of the field, which became one of the main sites of parachutes of the department. Several dozen drops of military equipment were scheduled, thanks to the mobilization of air teams of multiple nationalities, but also the inhabitants of the small hamlet who actively contributed to the task. To honor and highlight these acts of bravery, a day of commemoration is organized Sunday, September 17, by the Community of Communes of the Val de Vienne, in partnership with the municipalities of Aixe-sur-Vienne, Séreilhac, and the National Association of Descendants of French Resistance Medallists.

Program

• 11h: inauguration of a stele* in the presence of descendants of committed families.
• 9h30, 14h, 15h and 16h: guided tours (free access).
• Throughout the day, an exhibition of period objects will be visible on site with the possibility of manipulating the walrus.
