"In the heart of the cathedral of commerce, the secrets of Spring"
Private terraces, underground and unpublished archives: discover exclusively Spring as you have never seen it!
157 years ago, in 1865, the department store «Au Printemps» was born. Created by Jules and Augustine Jaluzot, a visionary couple, in a neighborhood still peripheral and little commercial, it imposes itself from its opening as a brand with the original identity: «In Spring, everything is new, fresh and pretty as the title: In Spring».
Rebuilt in 1882 by Paul Sédille and considered by historians as the prototype of the modern department store, Printemps inspired the "cathedral of commerce" described by Zola in To the Happiness of the Ladies, published the following year.
During the weekend of the European Heritage Days, we invite you to discover exclusively the most hidden backstage and secrets of the Printemps Haussmann. It is a totally free guided walk and a fabulous adventure between architecture, fashion and history: from a private terrace with 360° panoramic views of Paris to the 7th Heaven, its new floor dedicated to circularity, recently restored monumental grids to the underground where craftsmen and technicians are active and where the Engine Room and galleries of the Second World War are hidden, from the majestic glass dome created in 1910 to the great monumental Art Deco staircase that regained its splendour this year after 40 years of closure to the public. The department store will reveal itself as you have never seen it.
The exhibition "The fabulous bestiary of Primavera. The 110 years of the Spring Art Workshop" will also allow you to immerse yourself in the history and production of ceramics of Primavera, the first design studio integrated into a department store.
