Created during the 1914-1918 war in the buildings of the former hospital of Val-de-Grâce (former royal abbey), the museum allows the visitor, through the pedagogical presentation of its collections, to better understand the foundations and the multiple vocations of medicine to the armies: health support for the armed forces, development of maxillofacial surgery, research in psychiatry, underwater medicine and aerospace, fight against toxic gases, humanitarian actions, care of populations, creation of medical schools or Institut Pasteur, control of major overseas endemic diseases and infectious diseases in metropolitan or exotic countries, advances in hygiene, etc.
