Office national des combattants et victimes de guerre

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the National Office of Combatants and War Victims organizes guided tours of the War Memorial for France in External Operations. Inaugurated on November 11, 2019, this high place of national memory pays tribute to the dead for France in theaters of operations since 1963. Composed of a sculpted group featuring six anonymous soldiers of the French army wearing a non-visible cerceuil, this monument testifies to the diversity of commitments, and associated memories. Alongside a guide-mediator, discover this place of meditation which has several meanings: those of the commitment, the recognition and the memory of the soldiers of the fourth generation of fire.

À propos du lieu

Monument aux morts pour la France en opérations extérieures
29 rue de la Montagne de la Fage 75015 Paris
  • Île-de-France
The War Memorial for France in external operations was inaugurated on 11 November 2019 in the heart of the Eugénie-Djendi garden (resistant, deported and executed in Ravensbrück). It is the witness of the recognition of the Nation towards the ultimate sacrifice of the combatants engaged since 1963 on the various theatres. Composed of two central elements, the monument represents six anonymous porters carrying an invisible coffin. Their uniforms symbolize the entire military community. A wall reveals the names of the soldiers who died for France in foreign operations.
