Come and discover a hidden heritage: the fort of Villeras this remarkable military building. The fort in a few lines May 1871. France lost the war against Prussia and emerged very weakened from a conflict that left it isolated with a defenseless border, opening the way to Paris for a new invasion. We must therefore rebuild the defence system. General Séré de Rivières, director of engineering at the Ministry of War, designed a system of deterrent fortifications to protect the capital and slow down a possible surprise attack. It is in this context that the fort of Villeras is built between 1876 and 1881. A total of 18 forts, 5 redoubts and 34 batteries were built around the capital.
