On 29 October 1624, Jean de Vitry, Lord of Reuilly, donated to Antoine Fayet, parish priest of Saint-Paul, a piece of land to build a chapel dedicated to Saint Marguerite. After being a branch church of the Saint-Paul church in 1634, this chapel became a parish church in 1712.
The Sainte-Marguerite cemetery was opened behind the church in 1637\. The nave and aisles were lengthened in 1679\. In 1703, Gilles Le Sourd, parish priest of Saint-Paul, undertook the construction of the chapel of the north transept called the chapel Saint-Joseph-Sainte-Marguerite. The south transept was enlarged with the chapel of the Virgin in 1724\. Between 1760 and 1764, the architect Victor Louis (1731-1800) built the chapel of the Souls-of-Purgatory in the neo-classical style and the painter Paolo Antonio Brunetti (1723-1783) was responsible for its trompe-l'oeil decoration. It is a unique and exceptional example of this trompe-l'oeil art preserved in Paris.
