Guided tour of the History Workshop
a museum to understand how history is written
How and from which pieces is the history of present time written? How did we get interested in hitherto neglected sources - press, graphic works, leaflets, photographs, posters, audiovisual, web? Why do we strive to preserve the traces of our personal or family history? Why do activists gather archives of their engagement? What interaction is there between the views of the historian, the activist and the citizen? Why and how to transmit these materials to the next generations? Through a stroll in the collections of La contemporaine- paintings of the Great War, leaflets, sketches of the Liberation trials or diaries of activists of the Algerian War, archives collected hot during the Russian Revolution or samizdats of the 1970s-1980, photojournalist works, filmed interviews, activist or associative archives...- l'Atelier de l'histoire questions our relationship to contemporary history and its sources.
