Begun in 1844, completed in 1855 under Napoleon III, the hotel of the Minister of Foreign Affairs is representative of the decorative art of the Second Empire mixing elements inspired by Antiquity, the Renaissance and the classical era. A place of remembrance, the hotel is the setting for major international negotiations, such as the 1856 Treaty of Paris, which ended the Crimean War, and the 1919 Versailles Treaty, which concluded the First World War.
