"Roda de choro" with the Choro Club of Paris
It is impossible to dissociate music and cultural heritage in Brazil – the Embassy therefore organized a small "roda de choro" for you on Sunday 17.09 at 11.30 am, with students and teachers from the Choro Club of Paris. Now widely used and appreciated in France, this style of instrumental music was born in Rio de Janeiro at the end of the nineteenth century - long before bossa nova and samba. If its name – which comes from the verb «chorar» - «to cry», or «to lament» - refers to melancholy, the choro is a living adaptation of European polkas, which it marries with the rhythmics of African music. This is perfect to complete the visit to the Schneider Hotel, which has been home to the Brazilian Embassy for over 50 years.
