À propos du lieu

Le Cyclop

To know The Cyclop, one must penetrate one’s head, invite oneself into one’s mind. It is another universe that reveals itself, full of intimacy and friendship, between art museum and museum of history, both serious and full of humor. When the mythological monster wakes up, moves on and rumbles, the visitor is invited to a total art experience. Visual, tactile and sound, it will see sculptures, paintings and theater come alive. Jean Tinguely, his wife Niki de Saint Phalle and their friends began construction in 1969\. Many artists collaborated, in a family and festive atmosphere. Without permission and with their own funds, they worked from recycled materials. But this provocative work was regularly vandalized, and Jean Tinguely chose to donate it to the French state in 1987\. Completed 25 years after the first works, Le Cyclop was inaugurated and opened to the public in 1994.
