Le Passage is a nearby cultural place located in Ivry-sur-Seine. Formerly known as Atelier/ TRANS305, it is the legacy of a transitional urban planning project designed in 2012 by artist Stefan Shankland with the architecture collective raumlaborberlin, winner of the Golden Lyon of the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2021. Its experimental architecture designed in reused materials and the modularity of its spaces make it today a place with multiple uses and open to local initiatives. For the European Heritage Days, the Passage wishes to open its doors to the public through several workshops and visits of the place. The workshops will aim to build a biodiversity wall made of recycled concrete blocks made by the participants of the JEP workshops. The construction of a biodiversity wall allows to combine mineral world (recycled rubble), plant world and animal world. Holes of different sizes allow it to accommodate plant and animal species with varied needs. Also called a living wall, a biodiversity wall is a meeting point between human activity (anthropogenic inert rubble and collective production of the wall), natural phenomena and living beings. This living sculpture is a concentrate of biodiversity, an educational project and a signal object in the urban space. Participants will be able to learn how to cast recycled concrete and assemble the blocks during the workshops with the equipment that will be provided by the Passage. This weekend will also be the occasion of the inauguration of the composter built by the Passage team and volunteers this summer, which will be ready to be used by residents! Saturday’s program: pouring cinder blocks in Marble from here (recycled rubble concrete). Sunday program: assembly of these blocks (as well as other already produced) in a biodiversitary wall. These workshops will make it possible to share with a wider audience the ‘Marbre d'ici’ approach and to discover the architecture and activities of the ‘Passage’, two projects initiated by the artist Stefan Shankland in Ivry-sur-Seine in recent years.
