Eglise Notre-Dame
17 Rue Chanzy, 08600 Givet
This church was burnt down and rebuilt several times. Dated of 1612, the chorus(choir) and the tower are the most old(former) parts(parties). From 1730 till 1732, the church undergoes profound changes: the old(former) nave becomes the chorus(choir). The first orientation of this church was changed: for lack of place(square), its enlargement could make Notre-Dame only towards the street, the Meuse(Maas) being too close. The organs of the XIXth century were built by the factor(mailman) of organs Cavaillé Coll. The church shelters a picture(board) dated of 1620 (a crucifixion) registered on the Inventory of Historic monuments, a high altar marble Renaissance and very beautiful statues of golden wooden apostles.
