The construction of the current castle began in the eighteenth century, but, from the twelfth century, it is mentioned a feudal castel surrounded by moats and walls. In a sad state at the end of the seventeenth century, the seigneurial house was razed to give way, a few years later, to what is considered today as one of the most beautiful architectural ensembles of the department.
At the end of 1720, a rich Trojan family began the construction of the new castle. Jacques d'Aubeterre, Comte de Jully, commissioned the plans from one of the most brilliant architects of his time: Germain Boffrand. Student of Jules Hardouin Mansart, he realized among others the castle of Lunéville for the Duke of Lorraine or the Hotel de Soubise in Paris, current National Archives.
It is the young architect Philippe de La Force who will follow the yard and will bring the stones, on the back of mule, of Tonnerre (45 kilometers) and the slates by boat from Paris. This titanic shipyard ruined its owner who died
