Come to the inauguration of the restoration of a well

European Heritage Days 2023

Mairie de Rimogne

The association "Les amis de la maison de l'Ardoise", in partnership with the city of Rimogne, asked the association "Digital Art, Heritage and Territory" to design three days of events from 15 to 17 September around this mining headframe, the last of the Ardennes still standing, to promote and animate the recently renovated site.
You will be able to attend a digital, immersive and participatory installation: to the sound of familiar noises that once roamed the village, the frame will turn into a future retro robot, a symbol of technology that must save us all, but that can also sometimes lead to our loss. A reinterpretation of the past is proposed, while initiating the process of creating a set of tourist events during the year and affirming the identity of the brand «Slate Village».

À propos du lieu

Puits Saint-Quentin

In 1961, this jewel of technology was unveiled with great fanfare, with a headframe measuring 31 metres high and 120 metres deep vertically. In 800 years of history, this is the first time that slate will come down mechanically through an elevator. In 1971, the Ardoisières de Rimogne pits were permanently closed. The Saint Quentin headframe had only worked for 10 years. Today, it still sits in the middle of the village. Last symbol of a centuries-old slate history, left for dead and abandoned, just good to scrap for some as many mining frames in the North and Lorraine. A young municipal team, elected in 2015 and renewed in 2020, sets itself the goal of meeting the challenge of renovation. Things are unlocking/materializing in 2021 with the help of the Heritage Foundation. The work is now complete.
