The Abbey of Notre-Dame de Chéhéry, granddaughter of Clairvaux, was founded in 1147\. Looted and ransacked during the Hundred Years War, it is probably restored a first time. During the Sling it is burned again. It will be necessary to wait until the middle of the eighteenth century to see its total reconstruction in the perfectly classical style that we still know today.
After the Revolution, the abbey was bought by a notable Parisian who made it his pleasure residence. In the 20th century, the abbey was successively a German hospital, then the headquarters of the American army during and after the Great War, before falling into oblivion from the 1960s.
The abbey is located outside the village of Châtel Chéhéry, whose territory is located in the forest of the Argonne.
Since 2019 it has been part of the Stéphane Bern Mission for the Safeguarding of Endangered Heritage.
