Contemporary memory reserves a special place for the Holocaust, an unprecedented event in history. The essence of any event is to be historicized, mediatized, in short to become a subject of fiction. The Holocaust could not escape it. Not without caution, errors and trial and error, but also with genius, the comic strip seized the Holocaust.
It is this historical and artistic journey that is proposed to you in what is called the 9th art by questioning the visual sources of these representations, their relevance, their scope and their limits. How the Holocaust was mobilized by fiction, whether in comics or in the Francobelgian comic strip with The Beast is dead! of Calvo, where the theme is present since 1944. More than 75 years later, lines of force, almost a grammar, emerge from these narratives and representations which this exhibition will try, for the first time, to draw up an inventory.
