Chapelle Sainte-Apolline
Rue de la Martolle, 21390 Brianny

Brianny is a small village in the Auxois, in the valley of the Armançon which has a hundred inhabitants. Nothing seems to attract the attention of heritage lovers and yet its chapel dedicated to Saint Apolline which is of a simple architecture presents its "macabre dance" performed around 1510 - it is one of the rare macabre dances in France and is the subject of a PP "Dance Macabre in the Chapel of St Apolline". The chapel in the absence of a cemetery would have been an ossuary. A small bell tower surmounts the building and one enters a small room where a confessional reigns, then a door gives access to the chapel; on the left is a round stoup.
