Pyramide de Couhard

Located on the heights of the city of Autun, the pyramid of Couhard, also called Couhard stone, is a funerary monument built on one of the many Gallo-Roman cemeteries extramuros between the 1st and the 3rd century. Today, the Couhard stone is only the “core” of a more important monument. On a square base 10.50 m high, stood a pyramid of 22.65 m, without funeral chamber: the old boreholes showed that the building has no cavity. The mystery remains on the deceased to whom this monument is dedicated. Only a magic lead tablet, from the 2nd century AD. J.C., bearing evil inscriptions in Latin and Greek, was discovered at the base.
