Inaugurated in 1983, the hospital of Villefranche is one of the eleven hospitals of type «Duquesne» realized in France between 1980 and 1991. This model of new model hospital, promoted by the Ministry of Health to meet the needs of medium-sized cities, is based on the hospital-tree scheme.
