Coll départementale des Musées de l'Ain - Claudius Corne

Built at the end of the 19th century, the chapel of the factory could accommodate several hundred people at a time when the staff stood at nearly 2000 people: 500 to 600 workers boarded, 500 externals and nearly 800 people living at home. It remained in use until the school closed at the outbreak of World War II. After becoming a textile warehouse, it remained abandoned until the takeover by the Commune of Jujurieux which transformed it into a cultural center.

At the heart of the village of Jujurieux in Ain, the site and the collections of Silks Hat(Cap) establish(constitute) an exceptional heritage. Based(Established) in 1810 in Lyons, the house Hat(Cap) creates a factory in Jujurieux from 1835\. By 1900, in her(its) peak, she(it) employs 2000 people among whom more than 600 girls accommodated in the big(great) dormitories of the house. Real industrial beehive, the site concentrates on the spot a shadowing(spinning), weaving workshops, a boarding school(internship) for girls, a chapel, a domestic school, a terminus of streetcar. Having estimated about 300 000 objects and documents, collections manifest Hat(Cap) the industrial epic poem of the house. Machine-wovens, textile drawings, cloths, archives, iconographic collections make up(compose) the wealth of this exceptional bottom kept(preserved) in the buildings(ships) of origin. Discover in the preserved factory, the weaving workshop and its velvet jobs(businesses). Find the everyday life(daily paper) of those who made the history(story) of this factory, example of social, moral and religious organisation on the background of paternalistic ideas. Relive the two centuries of textile creations, of united black in fabrics(tissues) with motives, between artistic excellence, technical know-how and designer clientele.
