Visit of the church st Etienne
The parish of Saint Étienne de Jarnioux was created relatively recently (1853). Before this date, Jarnioux was attached to the parish of Saint-Martin de Ville sur Jarnioux. Worship was also celebrated in the chapel of Saint Catherine, prebende of the lords of Jarnioux. Construction of the church began in 1880. It was made under the impetus of Auguste Guinon, the first mayor of Jarnioux (the commune had been created in 1869 separating from Ville sur Jarnioux) and the church was consecrated in 1889. The mayor himself largely participated in the financing of the works on 189,000 francs, total cost, he donated 158,000 francs (this is the gold francs of 1889). The church was located in the centre of the village. This new church was built behind the site of the old halls along the road, which were demolished in 1865 due to obsolescence. The departmental road was at the same time widened which required the felling of the tree of freedom, which was on the right of the place (the second tree on the left of the place was replaced only in 1996 because of old age)
