Church of Our Lady of Valbenoîte Saint-Etienne
The church of Valbenoîte is an old Romanesque abbey church built from 1222 for the Cistercian community established in the country of Forez in the abbey of the same name (founded in 1184). In 1790, the buildings were sold as national property.
The church became parish in the early nineteenth century and was enlarged in 1820.
In 1846, it was taken over by the Marist brothers who opened a school and boarding school. Following the flood of 1849, they left Valbenoîte for Saint-Chamond.
In 1949, the church was listed as a historic monument. The Stations of the Cross of the former Church of the Nativity was reinstalled in 2022. The church will be presented by the association Révéler ma colline".
The organ originally built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll will be presented by Geneviève Granger, titular organist. Free admission.
