The RNR des Jasseries de Colleigne is located in the heart of the high stubble of Forez, on the edge of the region, bordering the Auvergne. It forms a pastoral unit of several hundred hectares of heathland, lawns, meadows and peatlands. These so-called «open» environments are in sharp decline in France and constitute an important element of the natural and landscape heritage to be preserved. The Colleigne reserve is also recognized for its floristic wealth and built heritage.
