Geboren 1776, in einer Familie von Magistraten, war François Humbert nicht in der Lage, die erste orthopädische Einrichtung Frankreichs zu eröffnen. Es ist der revolutionäre Kontext, der ihn im Alter von 17 Jahren zwingt, sich als Militärchirurg zu engagieren. Dann, leidenschaftlich für Anatomie, setzt er sein Medizinstudium in Paris fort. Ohne sein Studium abschließen zu können, ließ er sich 1804 in Morley, Maas, nieder, wo ihn die Fachjury für Medizin als Gesundheitsoffizier empfing. Als Feldarzt war er als Bezirksarzt tätig, der Impfungen durchführte, oder als Chirurg im Hospiz von Joinville (Haute-Marne). 1817 gründete er seine Klinik, in der er mit mechanischen Mitteln Skoliose-Patienten behandelte. 1827 revolutionierte er die orthopädische Medizin, indem er sich um die angeborenen Hüftluxationen kümmerte, die damals als unheilbar galten. Seine Entdeckungen provozieren Bewunderung und Kontroverse. Als guter Kommunikator schrieb er seine Werke und begleitete sie mit Modellen seiner orthopädischen Maschinen. Von der Königlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften ausgezeichnet, wird er allmählich in Vergessenheit geraten und hinterlässt uns heute Bücher, Archive, orthopädische Modelle und Kunstsammlungen.

Conference + Visit of the facades of the old orthopedic establishment
Born in 1776 into a family of magistrates, François Humbert was not predisposed to open the first French orthopedic establishment. It was the revolutionary context that forced him, at the age of 17, to become a military surgeon. Then, passionate about anatomy, he continued his medical studies in Paris. Without completing his studies, he moved to Morley, in the Meuse, where the departmental medical jury received him as a health officer in 1804. A country doctor, he distinguished himself as a district doctor practising vaccinations or as a surgeon of the hospice of Joinville (Haute-Marne). In 1817 he founded his institution, where he treated patients with scoliosis by mechanical means of his invention. In 1827, he revolutionized orthopedic medicine, taking charge of the Congenital Luxations of the Hip, pathologies deemed incurable at the time. His discoveries provoke admiration and controversy. Good communicator, he writes his works accompanied by models of his orthopedic machines. Awarded by the Royal Academy of Sciences, he gradually falls into oblivion, leaving us today books, archives, orthopedic models and art collection.

Conferenza + Visita delle facoltà dell'ex istituto ortopedico
Nato nel 1776, in una famiglia di magistrati, nulla predisponeva François Humbert ad aprire il primo istituto ortopedico francese. È il contesto rivoluzionario che lo costringe, a 17 anni, ad arruolarsi come chirurgo militare. In seguito, appassionato di anatomia, prosegue gli studi di medicina a Parigi. Senza aver potuto completare gli studi, si trasferì a Morley, nella Mosa, dove la giuria dipartimentale di medicina lo ricevette come ufficiale di salute, nel 1804. Medico di campagna, si distinse come medico di distretto praticando le vaccinazioni o come chirurgo dell'ospizio di Joinville (Haute-Marne). Nel 1817 fondò il suo istituto, dove curò con mezzi meccanici i pazienti affetti da scoliosi. Nel 1827 rivoluzionò la medicina ortopedica, assumendo le Luxations Congenitales de la Hanche, patologie ritenute all'epoca incurabili. Le sue scoperte suscitarono ammirazione e polemiche. Buon comunicatore, scrive i suoi lavori accompagnandoli con modelli delle sue macchine ortopediche. Premiato dall'Accademia Reale delle Scienze, cade progressivamente nell'oblio, lasciandoci oggi libri, archivi, modelli ortopedici e collezione di opere d'arte.

Né en 1776, dans une famille de magistrats, rien ne prédisposait François Humbert à ouvrir le premier établissement orthopédique français. C’est le contexte révolutionnaire qui le contraint, à 17 ans, à s’engager comme chirurgien militaire. Puis, passionné d’anatomie, il poursuit ses études de médecine à Paris.
Sans avoir pu terminer ses études, il s’installe à Morley, dans la Meuse, où le jury départemental de médecine le reçoit comme officier de santé, en 1804. Médecin de campagne, il s’illustre comme médecin d’arrondissement pratiquant les vaccinations ou comme chirurgien de l’hospice de Joinville (Haute-Marne).
Il fonde, en 1817, son établissement, où il soigne à l’aide de moyens mécaniques de son invention des patients atteints de scolioses. En 1827, il révolutionne la médecine orthopédique, en prenant en charge les Luxations Congénitales de la Hanche, pathologies réputées incurables à l’époque. Ses découvertes provoquent admiration et controverse.
Bon communicant, il écrit ses ouvrages en les accompagnant des maquettes de ses machines orthopédiques. Récompensé par l’Académie Royale de Sciences, il tombe progressivement dans l’oubli, nous laissant aujourd’hui livres, archives, maquettes orthopédiques et collection d’œuvres d’art.

Es el contexto revolucionario que lo obliga, a los 17 años, a alistarse como cirujano militar. Luego, apasionado de anatomía, continuó sus estudios de medicina en París. Sin haber podido terminar sus estudios, se instala en Morley, en el Mosa, donde el jurado departamental de medicina lo recibe como oficial de salud, en 1804. Médico de campaña, se destaca como médico de distrito que practica las vacunaciones o como cirujano del hospicio de Joinville (Haute-Marne). En 1817 funda su establecimiento, donde cura con medios mecánicos su invención a los pacientes con escoliosis. En 1827 revolucionó la medicina ortopédica, al hacerse cargo de las Luxaciones Congénitas de la Cadera, patologías consideradas incurables en la época. Sus descubrimientos provocan admiración y controversia. Buen comunicador, escribe sus obras acompañándolas de las maquetas de sus máquinas ortopédicas. Recompensado por la Real Academia de Ciencias, cae progresivamente en el olvido, dejándonos hoy libros, archivos, maquetas ortopédicas y colección de obras de arte.
