Relations between Aix and Spain are more obvious than at first sight… A guided tour that takes you through the streets of Aix en Provence to discover the common history between the Provençal city and the Iberian kingdom, whose beginnings date back… in Prehistory!
At the turn of the Aix arteries, the Spanish footprint is always visible. On some oratories that hide the scallop shell but also at 7 ter rue Mignet which houses a place full of history: the former convent of Our Lady of Nazareth. The installation of the Dominican sisters in Aix was favored by Charles II of Anjou, called the Lame, grandson of the King of France Louis VIII and of Blanche de Castille by his father, and heir of the County of Provence and descendant of the Kings of Aragon by his mother, Beatrice of Provence. Not to mention the links between Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso, who lies just a few kilometres from Aix en Provence!
