Musée sur la commune de Mormoiron

The Museum presents the geology, paleontology and archaeology of Mormoiron. The whole history of gypsum, ochre, siliceous sands, clay and gravel pits of Mormoiron is evoked. Many photographs and videos explain the geological phenomena of these transformations. The exhibits (fossils, flint, pottery), from the Middle Palaeolithic to the Gallo-Roman period, are small wonders, including the casting of a Palaeotherium skeleton (38 million years), a fossil mammal extracted from the quarries of Mormoiron and one of the few found complete to date. The Museum is part of a rich architectural and natural heritage.

Housed in the vaulted rooms adjacent to the library, the Museum presents the geology, paleontology and archaeology of Mormoiron. Gypsum, clay, sand, ochre are exhibited and their exploitation illustrated by photos and documents. The history of ochres, gypsum, siliceous sands, clay and gravel of Mormoiron is evoked. Numerous photographs and videos explain the geological phenomena specific to these transformations. From the Palaeolithic to the Gallo-Roman period, a collection of fossils, flints and pottery are offered to the visitor. The latter could not miss the casting of a skeleton of Palaeotherium (38 million years), fossil mammal extracted from the quarries of Mormoiron in 1904\. It is one of the few that has been found complete to date. The museum is part of a rich architectural and natural heritage. You will be able to continue your visit, thanks to an orientation course, "Les sables de Mormoiron". [http://www.mormoiron.com/parcours-orientation/](http://www.mormoiron.com/parcours-
