Discovery tour of the Urban Park of Butterflies in Marseille
To bring nature back to the city, the LPED created in 2012 the Parc Urbain des Papillons (PUP) on a site made available by the City of Marseille, north of the city.
The PUP is an experimental research device on urban biodiversity: through annual monitoring, it aims to observe the evolution of butterfly communities by day, the potential arrival of new species and their installation. But it is also a space for the dissemination of naturalistic knowledge and a multidisciplinary field of mediation where school, students and the general public are sensitized to urban biodiversity. The maintenance of the place is provided by the students of the Lycée Agricole des Calanques, which contributes to the training of future managers of green spaces in management methods that preserve biodiversity and promote the establishment and maintenance of this urban nature.
For the 10-year anniversary of the PUP and for the national event “Journées du Patrimoine”, an event day will be proposed at the park on Saturday, September 17, 2022. Visits will be made for groups of about twenty people throughout the day! This will allow you to discover the park, its layout and especially the fauna and flora present in this period. You can also discover a temporary exhibition of insect photographs created by Chloé Duque and scripted by the artist collective SAFI.
