The Franciscan religious, also called Cordeliers, settled in Tarascon in the thirteenth century, first on the outskirts, then inside the ramparts, near the Rue des Halles. They built their monastery in the 15th century next to the church of Saint-Laurent, which then stands on the site of the Place Frédéric Mistral. The buildings were sold as national property in 1791 and shared among several owners. Today, the cloister of the Cordeliers hosts a program of exhibitions around art and history.
