The museum is installed(settled) in the right(straight) wing of the palace Longchamp built by the architect Henry Espérandieu from 1862 till 1869 to memorialise the arrival in the city of waters of Durance, diverted thanks to the channel(canal) of Marseilles. A colonnade connects(binds) the museum and the museum with the monumental fountain of the castle - of water exchange. The building(ship) possesses a very rich sculpted decoration, of which the group of Durance by Jules Cavelier and four wildcats(fawns) of Barye at entries. In the staircase of the museum two paintings(cloths) of Puvis de Chavanne are: Marseilles, door of the East and Marseilles, Greek colony(summer camp).
