The old(former) Hotel of Baroncelli-Javon, called Palace of Roure in the XIXth century by Frederick Mistral, was built at the end of the XVth century by Pierre Baroncelli, Florentine banker. Deeply altered at the end of the XVIIth century, he took the turn of a mansion and sheltered, till the beginning of the XXth century, the descendants of Pierre Baroncelli, become marquess of Javon. In 1907, the family had to sell the hotel which knew then, during decade, ten of irremediable degradations. It is a woman, Jeanne de Flandreysy (1874-1959), native to Valencia(Valence), which acquired(bought back) in 1918 the old building and saved it from the ruins. Non-stop, during more than thirty years, she(it) worked on her(its) rehabilitation. Friend of Frederick Mistral and of Folco de Baroncelli, enthusiast of Latin culture, it attempted to restore all its chandelier(luster) in the old(former) palace and made at once a museum, a library(bookcase) and a centre of studies renamed(reappointed), to the glory of Provence and of Latin cultures. She married in 1936 Emile Espérandieu (1857-1939), archaeologist of great renown, whose archives, archaeological collections and library(bookcase) came enrich the Palace of Roure. He(It) also passed on(also transmitted) his(its) fund(collection) concerning the Great War. By three donations (on 1944, on 1947, on 1959), Jeanne de Flandreysy gave the Palace of Roure and its collections in the City of Avignon.
