Practically virgin of construction until the end of the eighteenth century, this district will become the second center of the city thanks to Jean Joseph Louis Graslin. The theatre, built by Crucy and ruined by fire in 1796, was rebuilt in 1811 with the help of Napoleon.
Inaugurated in 1788, the Graslin Theatre is part of the development of a new district to the west of the city, under the impetus of J.J. Louis Graslin. The Nantes architect M. Crucy, steeped in ancient culture, created for the City his major work in the neoclassical style.
