visit of the Espinose gardens. CONCERT STRING ORCHESTRA AND OLD ONES ON WHEELS by the students of the music school
The origin of the name of this property certainly comes from the fact that it is ideally located to monitor ( espier) the eastern outskirts of the city and the castle, the other hypothesis is the presence of Spanish traders in connection with the Nantes trade.
By an edict of 14 June 1662, Louis XIV had ordered each city to open a general hospital to help the poor, the sick, the beggars and the orphans. But the Clissonnais were not in a hurry to obey because they had not begun to take care of their hospital until 1682.
Finally, on 16 January 1682, they acquired a house in the faubourg St Jacques, called l'Espinose, and in December of the same year, letters patent from the king authorized them to inaugurate the new administration.
In 1673 the king removed the chaplaincies he had granted from the order of St Lazarus and transferred them to the general hospitals. Thus, by Council decisions of August and December 1695, as well as letters patent of July 1696, the chaplaincy St Antoine was reunited at the Clisson General Hospital. The house of the Espinose was then leased.
During the Vendée Wars, it also suffered fire damage.
Owned by the Duboueix family, the house was rebuilt in the Italian style between 1822 and 1830 and inhabited by the son Michel-Charles.
It was in this connection that, on July 6, 1828, Michel Duboueix and his wife received the Duchess of Berry. She would have attended a country show at the Garenne Lemot, would have taken a walk on the Sèvre before going to the castle and then to the Espinose where a snack served on the terrace was waiting for her.
