Chapelle du château de Montriou
Château de Montriou, 49460 Feneu
- Maine-et-Loire
- Pays de la Loire
In 1484, Charlotte de Beauvau and her husband Jehan Rabault founded a chapel that they had built "audict lieu de Montriou". Until the XIXth century, the chapel adjoined the manor house by a small body of lodgings surmounting a poterne. In 1853, the owner had his castle restored and the chapel was isolated by the removal of this annex. All the interior decoration of the chapel was redesigned and the old paintings covered with coatings. The panel above the altar represented the Carrying of the Cross. It was later reproduced in the church of St Aubin des Ponts de Cé, the Lion d'Angers and the priory of Alleuds. All interior walls were originally decorated with wall paintings.
