Troglodyte Site: at the beginning of the Middle Ages, thousands of sarcophagi are going to be extracted in underground careers(quarries) transformed progressively into a large strengthened refuge. The archaeologists found all their trade secrets. Career(Quarry) opened from VI s. for the extraction of tanks and lids of sarcophagi; become then underground passage-refuge, then housing environment with chapel (XIIIs). Partly underground, partly air career(quarry), more than a hectare. dug(accentuated) in benches of limestone coskittles (faluns of Anjou); the clear galleries as well as the detailed areas of extraction allowed the reconstruction of the operating chaine of extraction; it is possible to see on the spot tanks in the course of extraction and the working zones of caviers (works of M Michel cousin from 1989 till 1995 in planned excavations). Currently this type(chap) of careers(quarries) is unique(only) in the region.
