The castle’s origins date back to 1090. It was at the time an important fortress of which the high keep and the ruins of the enclosure are still witnesses. At the beginning of the 17th century, the castle was transformed into a magnificent and elegant stately residence. Overlooking the Vendée grove, it is located in the middle of a landscape of hills, woods, ponds, in a green and bucolic sweetness.
It is one of the few castles in France inhabited continuously for nearly 1,000 years.
Poets and great men have resided in this wonderful site whose origin of the name means 'Sky Flower'. We will tell you about the visit of Bertrand Dugusclin, the poems of Philipine, Chatelaine de la Flocellière in the 16th century, as well as the famous love story between the beautiful Elizabeth Hamilton and the Marquis Jacques de Maillé of the time of Louis XIII.

During the Vendée Wars, the castle was captured and burned like the village by the infernal columns. In 1881-1882, the Baron Alquier had the castle restored and transformed by the architect Arsène Charrier. Important castral set with courtines, lices, dry ditches, platform with mistress-tower crowned by a machicolation.
