René-Théophile-Hyacinthe Laënnec, whose name is well known in Nantes where he trained with his uncle Guillaume, is a major figure in modern medicine and the inventor of mediated auscultation (with the help of a stethoscope). The museum, which is part of the Bibliothèque universitaire de Santé in Nantes, houses portraits, manuscripts, his surgeon’s kit and several stethoscopes, including the first wooden model from 1819. This visit will be completed by a discovery of some elements of the heritage collections held at the BU Santé (15th-19th century prints, herbaria, botanical and anatomy drawings).
