Mother Sea (Dance/Theatre Show)
Mother Sea, a cultural and social project of territory
Mère-mer is an artistic, cultural and social project in Nantes that celebrates mothers, inhabitants of Nantes and rivers in Nantes. Water and motherhood are closely linked in many cultures and eras, water being a symbol of fertility and fertility. The project unfolds around the figure 3: 3 arts; 3 districts (Malakoff, Breil, Port-Boyer) forming a pubic triangle, each crossed by water (the Chézine, the Erdre, the Loire); 3 phases of action of 3 months each, and in total 9 months gestation. It follows the course of a river, from the source to the sea, and associates water with motherhood. You will see here the last phase of the project, a show created by the inhabitants of the districts Malakoff, Breil and Port-Boyer on the themes of motherhood, parenthood, transmission. With the help of the two actresses carrying the project: Audrey Tarpinian and Cecilia Montomoli, but also Ana Igluka (singing), Rita Nykanen (dancing), Serge Gravel (music) and Mélanie Viot (costumes and accessories).
Origin of the project
By conducting theatre workshops, Audrey and Cecilia were able to see how the participants, especially mothers, seized the opportunity to express themselves differently, with the body, with dance, with writing. It changed their lives, their vision of themselves, their plans, their motivations. They also told us how the status of mother was taking its place in their lives, a source of happiness but also of confinement and problems, whether children are young or teenagers: "We are also mothers. And we are artists. In these neighbourhoods, mothers have other experiences than ours, they are often confined to the home, or they struggle between work and dependent children, often alone. Give them the opportunity to express themselves, to go out, to have a time of their own, to take a step back, to share moments between mothers but not only in the park between two slides, but poetically, artistically, it’s a precious place, a place of liberation and emancipation.".
