Musée d'art et d'histoire du Cap de Gascogne
Rue du général Lamarque, 40500 Saint-Sever
In 1970, the City decided to turn the convent of the Jacobins into a cultural center with a museum, a project that took over the associative world. The Saint-Sever Research and Archaeology Group (GRASS) is responsible for the design and management of the museum. However, it was not until 1980 and two years of renovation work for the opening of the museum, placed in the north and west wings of the first floor of the convent. This first course offers a very sharp look at the collections revealing above all a desire to share the history of the territory.
In 2015 and 2016, an inventory of the heritage of Saint-Sever made it possible to regain awareness of the importance of this cultural institution, hitherto called «Musée des Jacobins». From 2017, a museum manager is hired, she writes a Scientific and Cultural Project (PSC), which gives the major orientations of the museum. This file defines the establishment as a gateway to the many other heritage assets that the city has.
