You will discover the architectural riches of the merchant’s houses, the market square, its ramparts, its fortified doors and the church of Saint-Sauveur with its wall paintings dating from the 14th century and representing among others the Apocalypse, the Annunciation, Saint-James the Major and Saint Catherine.

This medieval city was very important in the 14th century! His relations with England earned him the status of "Royal City of England" in 1341\. In fact, it was Saint-Macaire, a true merchant city, that had the «wine privilege», that is to say the toll on cadurcian wine.
