Visit of the park and the castle, wooden games for young and old
Visiting the castle of Urtubie is to immerse yourself in the heart of nearly 700 years of the history of the same family, dating back to 1341, and in those of the Basque Country and France.
At first, you will start by visiting the park with the herbalist’s office and its garden of medicinal plants called the Garden of Singles in the Middle Ages.
Then you will visit a beautiful chapel with its structure in the shape of an inverted boat hull. It was built by shipbuilders from Ciboure!
You can then head to the Orangerie where you will discover an exhibition on the medicinal plants of the Basque Country and you can also enjoy a moment of relaxation by playing the wooden games of yesteryear for young and old.
In a second step, the guide will take you on the old walkway to immerse you in the history of the castle. This castle is one of the last in the Basque Country which remains inhabited since the beginning of its construction, in 1341. A guide will explain the architectural evolution of the building, against a background of historical context.
This year, exceptionally, you will have the chance to discover an extra room in the maze of the interior of the castle! To participate in the escape game, registrations are made only on the internet via the site Escape from the chateau.
