Nestled in the heart of the village of Coarraze, the last «factory farm» of the department, «Le Tissage Larrousse» contains a workshop of 9 looms, a canvas and a warp with all its coils of colored cotton, linen and wool yarn.
The Tissage Larrousse de Coarraze was founded in 1911 by a former cotton mill foreman, Valérien Larrousse, who was first described as a peddler and then a weaver in 1914\. When the founder died in 1939, the workshop was taken over by his son, Gaston, who used it until 1984\. Despite the manufacture of tablecloths and tea towels, Tissage Larrousse will remain somewhat on the sidelines of the Basque linen vogue through the manufacture, especially of cotton workwear, a large stock of which is visible in another building. This «factory farm» configuration, the last in the whole department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, remains the only witness of the textile era of "Petit Manchester".
