Bastide de Damazan
1 place Armand Fallières, 47160 Damazan
- Lot-et-Garonne
- Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Today bordered by the Garonne Canal, the bastide of Damazan was built in the plain of the river in 1259 by Alphonse de Poitiers. It adopts a square plan with rigorous geometry in the absence of any geographical constraints. The facades of the square have been coloured in the original spirit as the joineries (blue, yellow, ochre...) to highlight the stone fittings of the half-timbered houses and corbels. A hall rebuilt in the 19th century occupies the centre.
