A heritage walk around four wash houses

Each of these small buildings from the early nineteenth century, which evokes a way of life that is still so close, gathers laundries, fountains and drinking troughs.

Each of these small buildings from the early nineteenth century, which evokes a way of life that is still so close, gathers laundries, fountains and drinking troughs.

Set against the backdrop of green tablecloths thrown on the slopes, the walk connects four wash houses ideally distributed on the route. And what wash houses! Each of these small buildings from the early nineteenth century, which evokes a way of life that is still so close, gathers laundries, fountains and drinking troughs.

Gironde-sur-Dropt (Gironda sau Dròt en gascon) is a municipality in the south-west of France, located in the department of Gironde, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is part of the community of communes of Reolais in South Gironde. Its inhabitants are called the Girondais.
During the Revolution, the parish of Notre-Dame de Gironde and the parish of Sainte-Pétronille or Sainte-Peironnelle, an annex of Saint-Pierre de Casseuil, formed the commune of Gironde.
The commune which, under the Ancien Régime, bore the simple name of Gironde, carried the revolutionary name of Port-Libre in 1792, then that of Gironde-Sainte-Pétronille in 1793, was then fleetingly called Gironde and Sainte-Pétronille (according to the bulletin of laws of 1801), is again Gironde and finally acquired, in 1968, its current name of Gironde-sur-Dropt.
