Inauguration of the work «Le puits/Bibliothèque sur la Technique» by Suzanne Treister
Inaugural evening around the final work of the triptych «Les vaisseaux de Bordeaux» created for the metropolitan public art program by Suzanne Treister and inspired by the river and technology.
Invited in 2014 as part of the public art program of Bordeaux Metropole to design an artistic creation taking as theme the Garonne, the British artist Suzanne Treister proposed for our territory a reflection entitled Les vaisseaux de Bordeaux, in three sculptural interventions.
Passionate about technology, the advances and dangers it represents, and the imagination it evokes, she has taken an interest in the history of the river and its technique, especially in the systems that control water.
After The spaceship in the Basins-à-flot and Science Fiction Observatory/Library in Floirac, she imagines on the banks of the Garonne The Well/Library on the Technique, the last element of his triptych. This kiosk evokes on the one hand the neoclassical architecture in reference to Bordeaux and the pavilions that incited to contemplation in the English gardens as at the Petit Trianon in Versailles, and on the other hand assumes a resolutely contemporary aspect, herald of the very current problems it contains.
Inside, around a dummy well that echoes the power of the nearby river, windows present the books of great thinkers who have warned about the consequences of technology. By inviting us to discover texts and authors of reference, Suzanne Treister’s work encourages us to become aware of our technological dependence.
On the programme for the inaugural evening on Friday 16 September:
- From 19h: public inauguration of the work (visits, workshops, concert, etc.)
- 21h: performance show «Si la division cellulaire» by the collective Adieu Panurge.
With a lot of tricks and imagination, Thomas Skrobek and Sophie Vialettes of the collective Adieu Panurge elaborate landscapes evoking the infinitely small of the cellular micro and the infinitely large of the cosmos. Through sounds, images and textures created live with a high degree of poetry, they make us discover their «home-made cinema», projected on the pavilion. An invitation to travel and contemplation.
Access:
- Bus 45, stop Lavigne
- Friday 16/09 6:45pm-8:30pm, a free water shuttle connecting the left bank/right bank from the Gironde pontoon: «creating bridges» is an event proposed by the Burdigala and Organ Phantom cruises, as part of the upcoming 2022 Echo festival.
The triptych «The ships of Bordeaux», also composed of:
«The Observatory/ Science Fiction Library» (Floirac), and «The spaceship» (Bordeaux).
Work of the public art program of Bordeaux Métropole carried out as part of the public commission of the Ministry of Culture – Direction générale de la création artistique / Direction régionale des affaires culturelles Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
