KNOW PEY-BERLAND TOWER:

  • The bell tower of the cathedral
Detached from Saint-André, this campanile built in the fifteenth century responds to the wish to endow the cathedral with important bells, which could have threatened its structure.
  • Three bells, one drone and Notre Dame
Still active, Marie, Clémence, and Marguerite met Ferdinand-André, who settled in 1869 and weighed more than eight tons. Culminating at 66 meters, Notre-Dame d'Aquitaine watches over Bordeaux.
  • The origin of the name
Archbishop Pey-Berland (circa 1370-58), who was responsible for the revival of the Church in Aquitaine under the Plantagenets, decided to build the tower.

Gothic building raised(brought up) between the XIIth century and the XVIth century. Wall paintings(paints) of the XIVth century, set(group) of statues and great organ. The tower Pey-Berland is a bell tower of the XVth century of style Flamboyant Gothic, isolated from the cathedral not to weaken its foundations. A golden statue of Notre-Dame of Aquitaine dominates the building since 1863.
