Conference-presentation of the book «Sublime Périgord»
Hélène Lafaye-Fouhéty, geographer, will present the book Sublime Périgord, the factory of an exceptional territory that she co-wrote with Philippe Grandcoing.
Discover one of the favorite destinations of French and foreign tourists while explaining the origins and stages of its success, this is the ambition of Sublime Périgord. Crossing the gaze of a geographer and a historian, this book invites us to relive through the text and the image this slow alchemy which, for nearly two centuries, has led to the discovery and change of this territory.
Hélène Lafaye-Fouhéty and Philippe Grandcoing thus follow, from the nineteenth century to the present day, the transformation of the way of looking at landscapes and monuments.
They revisit literature and cinema as well as painting or photography, and analyse what the Périgord owes to its gastronomy, its prehistoric sites, its ancient or medieval remains, its villages and its flavors. From Montaigne to Abbé Breuil and the British and Michelin-starred chiefs, the importance of his ambassadors, both anonymous and famous, who contributed to the manufacture of this exceptional territory is also evident.
From Lascaux to Brantôme, from Sarlat to Monpazier, from La Double to Bergerac, they create a map full of nuances and richness where you can discover at the corner of a market hall, at the bend of a path or at the end of an alley, a region that has succeeded in combining heritage preservation with the invention of a way of life.
